Historically, the gay/lesbian bar has been central to the development of queer community, and as a space for networking, the sharing of ideas, and as a center of activism. Today more than ever, inclusion and activism is critical to maintaining and advancing LGBTQA+ rights. ARTsplat started as a collaboration of Joseph Dick of Queer Fear Magazine, Matt Heil, and Greg Casale to reinvigorate queer spaces with conversations about art, culture, and political discourse. These events feature new and established artists to share their poetry, storytelling, or performance art, with a focus on nurturing local community talent, coaching and developing new artists, and providing a platform to share experiences from a wide range of intersections in our community, with a mind towards building understanding and unity.
These events also serve as a fundraising opportunity for community organizations which benefit the LGBTQ+ community in Arizona.
